In Iran, the shadow of war and fear continues to heavily overshadow the lives of its citizens. On Monday, June 22, 2026, Iranian judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir officially announced that the government has arrested 3,292 citizens in recent months under charges of collaborating and working for enemies, following a joint airstrike by the United States and Israel in late February.

Iran Arrests Over 3,000 People for Treason and Colluding with Enemies

According to a report by the New York Post on June 22, 2026, among those detained, Iranian authorities claimed that 684 individuals had committed direct espionage activities for Israel, while more than 1,200 others faced accusations of spreading anti-government propaganda. More severely, the government is not only imprisoning people but has also confiscated the property and homes of hundreds of suspected traitors; in Isfahan province alone, up to 100 people have had their economic lifelines cut off by the state.

These arrests come after the Tehran regime previously detained over 50,000 people during a brutal crackdown on anti-government protests earlier this year. The intelligence wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that while the US and Israel attempted to assault Iran from the outside, they also activated networks of informants and traitors inside the country to stir up protests and chaos, aiming to destroy the nation from within.

However, regarding this mass wave of arrests, the international human rights organization Amnesty International came forward to warn and directly accuse the Iranian government of using the "wartime situation" as a pretext to launch crackdowns, silence government critics, and extract forced confessions from victims. According to a report by the Norway-based Iran Human Rights organization, as of early June, at least 40 political prisoners and protesters have already been executed by hanging by the Iranian government under these politically motivated charges.
